About

Windows Into Africa is a quirky, character filled family from the imagination of  my daughter Alaura. The design brief that I gave her was that all designs had to fit into a 30 cm x 40 cm perimeter and we had to have an elephant! After a few attempts, Alaura’s words were “Mum, you just can’t put creativity into a box!” Elka was just too magnificent to be part of the smaller group so we decided to make her  a beautiful stand alone piece.

Requirements

40 cm x 50 cm (16″ x 20″) rectangle for the background fabric

Different coloured fabric scraps for the appliqué (We used batiks)

50 cm (1/2 yard) of fusible web and thread for blanket stitching

Optional 30 cm x 40 cm (12″ x 16″) picture frame
